Mr. Bonebrake has been a licensed attorney in Illinois since 1990. Mr. Bonebrake’s areas of concentration over his career include insurance policyholder coverage disputes and other contract disputes, medical and other professional malpractice, construction accident claims, and automobile accidents, and other general personal injury. Mr. Bonebrake has been named as one of the top medical malpractice attorneys in Illinois by a survey of his peers in Illinois Super Lawyer, published in Chicago Magazine.
Mr. Bonebrake’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1987 with Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors. He graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago, Illinois in 1990, where he was a member of the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. Mr. Bonebrake is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, including all local circuit courts, the federal district court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the trial bar for Northern District of Illinois.
Mr. Bonebrake has handled numerous cases resulting in million dollar settlements or verdicts. He began his career in Chicago working for the two-hundred attorney firm of Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon from 1990 to 1995. At Wildman, Mr. Bonebrake represented medical providers, retailers, product manufacturers, and insurers in defending against personal injury and professional liability litigation. Since 1995, Mr. Bonebrake has represented individuals, entrepreneurs, and businesses in personal injury, insurance coverage matters, and other contract disputes. Mr. Bonebrake’s current clients benefit from his intimate knowledge of the defense bar and insurance company tactics given his prior experience representing them in litigation.
Mr. Bonebrake’s experience includes an extensive amount of work in the appellate courts, including appeals before the Illinois Appellate and Illinois Supreme Courts and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Bonebrake’s experience also includes taking many jury and bench trials to verdict, as well as hearings before administrative agencies in both the state and federal systems. Mr. Bonebrake has a broad amount of experience with alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including arbitration and mediation, and has served as an arbitrator on uninsured / underinsured motorist claims. He has also represented policyholders in numerous insurance policy disputes, suing to require insurance companies to provide millions of dollars in coverage to their insured’s on property, general professional, liability (CGL), workers compensation, disability, and life policies.
Mr. Bonebrake has published articles/book chapters in both criminal and civil matters, including in the area of medical malpractice. Mr. Bonebrake is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. When not practicing law, Mr. Bonebrake likes to spend time in his local community volunteering in the local soccer league and giving presentations on the United States Declaration of Independence and Constitution at local schools.
